The Advisory Board
Ann has been at Dr. John Drummond & Associates since 2010. Her responsibilities include maintenance of the building, IT structure and software updates, creating protocols and processes for improved patient care and efficiencies, hiring and payroll, A/R, and overseeing the reception. Prior to working in a dental office, her work path started in Sales with Procter and Gamble and Learning International.
She also worked as a Show Manager for Canadian National Sportsmen Shows, a Head Instructor running a power skating/hockey program, and as a coordinator for a science fair. Outside of work, she enjoys yoga, running, cycling, and traveling.
Beginning her career in Dental administration in 2000, Heather now manages one of BC’s largest dental practices, Hillside Dental Centre, and her sister office Smiles By Design, in Victoria. With a special interest in gentle, patient-centered communication, Heather’s focus is on seeking fair and effective outcomes for patients and staff alike.
Her primary job satisfaction comes from working through difficult situations to find balance and establish loyal long-term relationships. Aside from taking courses from leading dental educators, Heather pursues continuing education in business management through UBC’s Sauder School of Business, including completing the demanding Certificate in Dental Practice Management. Applying principles from the business world allows her to focus on financial efficiencies without compromising care.
With almost twenty years’ experience in the Administrative Assistant position and the Receptionist position, Doreen is an invaluable member of the Association. More than four years ago, she was promoted to the position of Office Manager, and has made LifeSmiles Dental her permanent home away from home.
As the office manager, she has been able to foster confidence in the staff by sharing her many years of experience, and giving advice to solve problems and to effectively handle difficult patients.
It is fair to say, Doreen is passionate about her role as an Office Manager and enjoys the position immensely; she is able to collaborate with all staff—no matter the position. She is able to solve office issues quickly and effectively, while also making time to work with patients one-on-one. And, she focuses on keeping up morale by encouraging the staff to excel in new aspects of their profession.

Her educational background is extensive, including attending University in Poland focusing on psychology and early childhood education, attaining a Dental Assisting certificate, and impressively graduating from Humber College with a degree in computer programming and analysis. She has over 25 years of dental experience and has held many roles such as a dental receptionist, dental assistant, hygiene coordinator, treatment coordinator, PR and marketing manager and office manager.
Marzena believes in versatility and finds that being VP of Operations at Campus Dentist allows her to utilize all the skills she’s previously acquired, while pursuing her passions such as working with people, coaching, passing on skills, and sharing her experiences with the staff to help them reach the next level in their professional development.
As a part of Dental Office Managers Association of Canada, Marzena is afforded an opportunity to teach and let others teach her. She wants to be in a position to take her skills and advance to the next level by sharing her knowledge and assisting in unifying all those in the dental field. Marzena enjoys active travelling, hiking, biking, experiencing new cultures, going to the theatre and the museum, and spending quality time with her family.
